The
Kindergartens is a flourishing group of nursery
schools in Central London educating children
aged 2 to 5 years. They were founded in 1991
by Carol Evelegh and her late husband Philip.
Carol is now the sole Principal of the Kindergartens
and she takes an active role in the development
of the kindergartens. You will often see her
at events and you are most welcome to contact
her via the main office. Carol is supported
in her role at The Kindergartens by Mrs Joanne
Allen, who is the Vice Principal.
Carol
has taught children aged 2 to 13 for the past
30 years. She was educated in Edinburgh and
obtained her teaching diploma from Hamilton
College of Education in 1977. She went on to
train as a Special Needs teacher and gained
a further qualification in 1992 from the Hornsby
Centre.
Carol taught in the state system in Scotland
for two years before joining Thomas’s
School where she first taught as a form teacher.
She then went on to be Head of Drama for all
Thomas’s Schools. She became Deputy Head
of Thomas’s Kensington in 1984. Following
the birth of her son in 1990 she became Head
of Thomas’s Kindergarten in Pimlico in
1991 and on the opening of a Kindergarten at
Battersea, in 1992 she became Director of Thomas’s
Kindergartens.
In May 1993, Carol was appointed Head of Thomas’s
Clapham. She has two children, both of whom
attended Thomas’s Clapham and now attend
Tonbridge and Benenden. Her daughter was a founder
member of Crescent 1. Carol remains Head of
Thomas’s Clapham.
Each Kindergarten has its own Head. The Principal,
together with the Registrar and the Accounts
Administrator work from the main Kindergarten
office which is based in Kent. This allows the
Heads to devote all of their time to the children,
the parents, the staff and the day to day running
of their Kindergarten.
